Residents on a street targeted by a reported petrol bomb say they were shocked by the incident.

Families living on High Road, in Gorleston, near Great Yarmouth, said the attack was out of the ordinary in what they described as a “quiet area”.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said they thought the attack involved a makeshift petrol bomb, with remains of a bottle filled with petrol and stuffed with newspaper reportedly found.

He said: “It went through the window and thankfully the blinds stopped it going through all the way. The smoke alarm went off but when they came downstairs they could see the hole in the window and smelt petrol.

“They could see the bottle on the inside window ledge.”

He added: “It is just scary because you have got a family next door as well, these people need to be caught really.

“It is just a really scary thought that a random person would go along, stick it through a window, and just walk off casually.”

Another neighbour, Tatiana Filip, who lives with her husband and daughter on High Road, said she felt left safe having lived on the street for three years.

She said: “I feel less safe and at the same time it is scary as well. We are renting property and looking to buy a house and this is a quiet area and we would think it would be fine normally.”

She added: “We have many car accidents on this road because it is so busy but not something like that. It is quite shocking obviously but I hope the family are all okay.”

Norfolk Police were called to the incident at around half past midnight on Saturday, and said the front window of the house was smashed and the internal blinds set on fire.

No-one was injured and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Another arson attack was also reported in Gorleston on the same night with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and the police responding to a vehicle fire in Pine Green.

A spokesman said officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding both incidents, however they are not thought to be linked at this stage.

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the areas or anyone with information should contact Det Con Gavin Rivett at Great Yarmouth CID on 101. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
