A Norfolk community bank will open its newest branch at Stalham at the weekend.

The Happing Community Bank is part of the Norfolk Credit Union, a co-operative offering savings and low-cost small loans. The branch will be opened by North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb on Saturday at St Mary's Church Rooms, in High Street, where it will hold sessions each Saturday from 10am to noon.

Credit union president Alan Squirrell urged people to consider using the bank, with its typical annual lending rate of 12.68pc, rather than resorting to doorstep lenders charging rates of 185pc or more.

The union also runs accounts for young savers and people wanting to save for Christmas and holidays.
