New focus for Caister police

POLICE in the Caister area will be targeting rogue parking, anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving after the issues were made policing priorities.

Members of the public attending the priority setting meeting for the Caister and Coastal Safer Neighbourhood Team highlighted the issues during a meeting on Wednesday, May 4.

Specifically discussed were illegal parking on pathways and grass verges, on Norwich Road, Caister, Beach Road, Winterton and North Road, Hemsby.

Also being looked at are dangerous driving at the roundabout on Kingsway and Winterton Road in Hemsby and anti-social behaviour in Caister, with a focus on incidents near the council hall.

These new priorities follow action being taken on current targets, which included speeding in Norwich Road, Caister and Ormesby Road, Hemsby, targeting rogue traders and Operation Claw.

As part of this, patrols using a speed gun were carried out in Norwich Road, Caister and Ormesby Road, Hemsby, in order to address concerns, with three drivers found to be travelling over the speed limit and written to.

Two men were also arrested following an incident in Westerly Way, Caister, after vulnerable householders paid for work which was never completed.

And as part of the team's work on targeting rogue traders, officers have helped set up a no cold calling zone in the area which will be launched soon, and moves are being made to set up a similar scheme in St Mary's Close in Hemsby.

There has also been targeting of persistent offenders in the Caister and coastal areas believed to be responsible for crime in the area as part of Operation Claw.

The next priority setting meeting will be held on August 7, at the Old Hall Caister, where members of the public are invited to attend.
