Villagers have unveiled a new sign for their community, almost 40 years after the first was put in place.
Fritton’s village sign was in poor condition after years of neglect but has now been resurrected by former resident Roger Rackham, who grew up in the village and decided to take on the task after making contact with local parish councillor Carol McDonnell.
Prior to unveiling the sign on Sunday, June 24, Mr Rackham spoke to the crowd about village life in years gone by, including tales about the former pub which was a favourite for US airmen during the Second World War. The sign was then blessed by parish rector Michael Kingston.
The new design shows a heavy horse pulling a plough, steered by a yellow waistcoated ploughman with trees either side. An owl and a squirrel sit further down to mark the rural setting of Fritton Common.
Materials for the sign were paid for by Fritton and Morningthorpe Parish Council.
