A NEW doctor with experience of working in both general practice and hospitals is to join a Great Yarmouth practice when one of its GPs retires later this year.

Abdul Rahim, who is currently working in Barnsley, south Yorkshire, will join Newtown Surgery in November. He will replace Willem Van Delft, who will retire after working at the Lawn Avenue surgery for the past 10 years.

Dr Rahim is the second new GP to join the surgery in recent months. Earlier this year, Abu Sathyanarayanan, who is known as “Dr Abu”, moved to Newtown from a surgery in Ramsgate, Kent.

Dr Abu, who qualified in 2000 and has worked in various specialities, replaced Alan Betts, who retired

in January after 32 years at the surgery.

Liam Stevens, senior partner at the surgery, said: “I would like to

pass on my thanks to Dr Van Delft for the enormous contribution he has made during the past decade.

“Everyone at the surgery will be sorry to see him go and will be sure to

wish him well for his retirement.

“However, we are delighted to welcome Dr Rahim to Newtown. He is experienced in general practice and has also worked in an acute hospital setting and will be an asset to the surgery.”

Building work, including creating a new consulting room and reception at the surgery, has recently been completed.

Newtown Surgery's patient participation group is seeking new members. Anyone interested in joining can contact David

Wilkinson on 01493 842156 or 07990 998845.
