The New Look branch in Gorleston looks to be the only outlet facing the axe in the region as the fashion chain seeks to reduce its UK “store estate.”

A statement on the company’s website today gives a full list of the 60 stores at risk.

The store in Yarmouth is safe under the proposal which could see some 980 redundancies.

The statement said the cuts came “amid challenged trading performance and a difficult retail environment.”

Alistair McGeorge, executive chairman of New Look, said: “Given our challenged trading performance and over-rented UK store estate we are havingto take tough but necessary actions to reduce our fixed cost base and restore long-term profitability.

“A priority for us is to keep all potentially affected colleagues informed during this difficult time.”

The company has 593 stores in the UK. It describes itself as an “iconic brand” on the high street.”
