The opening credits are set to roll as a Gorleston building goes back to the future to re-launch as a cinema.

The Palace Cinema in Gorleston is opening in a building originally built as a movie house, but until more recently being used a bingo hall.

With four screens seating around 450 people, a choice of luxury seats and all the latest blockbusters, the cinema is following the trend of smaller ‘boutique’ venues.

Cinema manager Luke Hockley-Hills said it was boom time for venues like the Palace. He added: “The cinema industry is strong and picking up and will be going for years to come. It’s about the picture quality and sound quality you don’t get at home. It’s much more immersive.

Showing first will be Blade Runner 2049 at 11am with The Lego Ninjago Movie and My Little Pony: The Movie set to delight younger children over half term.

The building is set out over two floors with two screens on each, with an upstairs bar.

Comfy leather black seats come as standard, with the more exclusive seating in two of the screens offering the best views in the house and reclining seats.

Food can be ordered at the bar and staff will bring it to you at your seats before the film is due start. The £1m project has suffered set-backs, with the opening date pushed back, but the final touches are being applied this weekend ready for the big unveil to the public.

Owner Patrick Duffy said he was pleased to be able to contribute to the social fabric of Gorleston.

He added: “The fact we’re giving it something that virtually no town of its size has – a state-of-the-art-cinema – is wonderful.”

From Monday until the official opening on November 2 all customers will receive a £2 discount. Members who join online will get £1 off every film.

Off-peak prices are £8.95 adult, £6.95 concessions, £25 family.

Peak prices are £9.95, £8.95 and £30 family.
