A BEETLE drive will herald the recreation of a new social club at a community centre in Gorleston.

The club will be launched at the Shrublands Youth and Adult Centre, Magdalen Way after it was awarded funding to the tune of 4,450 from the local Participatory Budget.

The grant will enable free membership of the social club together with the events organised each costing no more than 2 per person, over the club’s first year.

And the beetle drive, together with fish and chip supper, will kick things off on Saturday, April 16 at 7pm.

Brian Brackley, chairman of the centre, added that the centre was looking for vounteers to help organise events.

“This will involve a few hours per month to plan and organise and run the events,” he said.

“The success of the new social club will depend upon local residents being involved and putting on suitable events that the community would like to attend.

“These could range from the Beetle Drive already planned to bingo nights, quiz nights, music evenings, dances, and I am sure many other ideas.”

The money came from Great Yarmouth Borough Council as part of a Government fund, with residents choosing the successful projects.

It was provided for the Magdalen, Elmhurst Court and Shrublands areas, with a total of nine bids made for cash, of which three were successful.
