VOLUNTEERS with an evening to spare are needed to help a good cause when a new youth club opens at a Great Yarmouth community centre.

Neighbourhood management programme Comeunity needs another eight adults aged 18 and over to join the existing two recruits to help with the running of the new youth club at Peggotty Road community centre, which is due to start in April.

Louise Hampton, community development worker with Comeunity, said the club will meet on Thursdays between 6pm and 8pm, aimed at children aged between 11 and 18. It will offer outdoor and indoor activities.

Mrs Hampton said the decision to set up the club followed a Comeunity survey last year asking residents on the Barrack estate what could be done to improve their community. Many proposed the youth club idea.

Potential recruits will be interviewed and undergo criminal record checks, but no previous experience is necessary as training will be given. Volunteers from Newtown Youth Centre have been involved in helping get the new youth club up-and-running.

Mrs Hampton said: “The centre will give youngsters an opportunity to meet other people and play a five-a-side game of football. It will be the perfect opportunity to have a laugh.”

Anyone who would like to volunteer can call her on either 01493 845923 or 07951 167981.
