POLICE are hoping a new youth club will help cut anti-social behaviour in Cobholm.

The youth club, set up by three local mums, opens its doors on Wednesday and will give youngsters a place to go in the evenings.

Jade Brackley, Michelle Teasdale and Dawn Ryan, have worked with the Cobholm and Southtown Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) in setting up the club and the response from local youths has been “overwhelmingly positive”.

Police community support officer Abbey Horton is on the youth club committee and said: “The mums have done a fantastic job, members of the team really feel it will help drive down anti-social behaviour in the area. I see it as a very positive way to engage with the young community of Cobholm. Currently there are very few activities in the area, we fully support it and will be having regular inputs to the club, and the mums deserve all the praise they get.”

Officers from the SNT will attend sessions - giving youngsters talks on stranger danger and crime prevention advice for older youths.

The youth club, at the base of TS Warrior on Steam Mill Lane, will be open on Wednesday from 5pm-7pm for youngsters aged eight to 12 and open from 7.30pm until 9pm for 13 to 19 year-olds.

Activities include computer games, pool, tuck, and inputs from many other organisations hopefully to include the fire service, army careers for older members.
