Ava-May, three, died from a head injury after she was thrown from an inflatable trampoline on Gorleston beach on Sunday, July 1.

The annual Gorleston Clifftop Festival is happening over the weekend of July 28 and 29 and its organising committee has voted to not have bouncy castles and slides at the event as a mark of respect to Ava’s family and people in the town who were affected by the death of the Suffolk youngster.

A statement on the festival’s Facebook page says: “This decision is not a reflection on how our suppliers operate their equipment or the safety measures they put in place.

“We hope you will respect our decision, it was not an easy one to make, we see no reason why bouncy castles and slides will not be back next year.” For this month’s event the fun fair, fun dog show and live music on the main stage and acoustic arena will return as well as the sports display ring and charity, handmade trade and corporate stalls.

There is a comedy tent hosted by Kahn Johnson and Martin Westgate, Star Wars fans can meet their favourite characters and have their photo taken and there is a fun dog show on the Saturday at 12pm.

Sports groups, dance schools and theatre groups will entertain the crowds on Sunday in the sports display ring and on the main music stage from 11am until 4pm.

The car parks at Cliff Park High School and Junior School will be open between 10am-5pm at a small cost.

The committee says it is excited to work with many new volunteers who will play an integral part in ensuring the festival runs smoothly undertaking key roles such as helping in the Clifftop tea tent and generating future funds through bucket collection

A man and woman, both in their 40s, have been arrested and released under police investigation in connection with Ava-May’s death.
