GREAT Yarmouth will not have a carnival next year after the committee organising the week-long event disbanded.

The Yarmouth Carnival Committee broke up due to lack of funds to continue planning for the festival week which had been scheduled to take place in July next year.

Committee chairman Gerry Jarvis said it was with “great regret” the committee had to break up following an appeal in the Mercury recently encouraging local people and businesses to get involved and sponsor the event.

Mr Jarvis said that despite a few offers of help the borough council and local businesses had been reluctant to back the event leaving the committee with no other option but to disband and pull the plug on ambitious carnival plans.

He said: “I would like to thank the committee for their hard work and support.”
