A DECISION has not yet been made on whether Belton Cricket Club will be returning to the village as part of the development of a new sports pavilion.

The club, which currently plays on Southtown Common, has expressed an interest in playing its matches on New Road playing field, where the new 438,000 pavilion is being built.

But parish council chairman John Rudrum said the interest had not yet been discussed, but was likely to be raised at the next meeting of the pavilion's working party at the end of July.

He added he had not spoken to any representatives of the cricket club for a number of months.

The pavilion, funded by grants from a number of bodies including the parish and borough councils and the Football Foundation, is currently being built and will be used by Bohemians Youth FC as well as the Belton FC adult team.

Mr Rudrum added the parish council would not be pursuing a plan to buy neighbouring land to provide extra space for the cricket pitch.
