ALMOST 800 Great Yarmouth primary school children attended a series of music concerts at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich.

Pupils and staff from 14 schools enjoyed an exciting performance of music including well-known works such as Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite alongside music for film and television, including the Doctor Who theme.

The event was one of a series of Making Tracks concerts performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, supported by Yarmouth Borough Council and Seachange Arts.

Children joined in with plenty of audience participation, led by CBBC presenter Rani Price and conductor Robert Ziegler.

Trish Thompson, headteacher at Winterton Primary School, said: “The children had a fabulous time and haven't stopped talking about it. The whole concert was so easy for the children to follow and understand. The level of audience participation really excited and involved the children. It was a wonderful experience and a great learning opportunity for our children to have the chance to listen to a live orchestra of such high quality.”

Many pupils took away Sing Up t-shirts supplied by local charity SeaChange Arts who are managing Sing Up East Coast - a two year singing programme in Yarmouth and Lowestoft which aims to get about 2,000 children and young people under 18 singing.

To get more information or take part in a Sing Up development day on May 27 call SeaChange on 01493 846436.
