Large parts of Norfolk could be in line for thunderstorms and flash flooding today, with the Met Office putting a yellow weather warning in place.

The warnings, which stretch all the way across the south of the country, the Midlands and as far as Cardiff, include much of Norfolk, including Norwich.

They do not, however, apply to coastal areas, with places such as Cromer, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft not forecast to be affected.

The warning says: “Thunderstorms are likely to affect southern parts of the UK from late Thursday morning through the rest of the day.

“Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.”

However, Norwich-based forecasters Weatherquest expect it to by a dry day, with the warnings more likely to affect those in the central regions of the country.

Forecaster Adam Dury said: “Most places will have a dry day today - there is a lot of low cloud around which will stick around.

“There is a risk of isolated heavy rain and thunder in places like Thetford and the King’s Lynn area later in the afternoon and during the evening though.”
