A NEW offshore safety DVD being filmed by photographer Alan O'Neill and featuring Anglia TV personality Clare Weller will be seen by thousands of people.

“It will be played to everyone who has to go to any one of 33 platforms in the southern North Sea,” said Alan, owner of the Lowestoft firm CHPV Offshore Energy Media Services.

“It's an official induction film and anything to do with safety on the platforms obviously has to be spot on for accuracy. I'm sure our 20-plus years of experience in the offshore safety field helped get us the job.”

International oil and gas company Perenco, which has its operations base at Great Yarmouth, commissioned the DVD.

It follows hard on the heels of a pioneering project by Alan in the Middle East, filming a helicopter safety DVD for Dubai Petroleum.

The work also coinciding with Alan celebrating the success of a stunning picture of two men cleaning the blades of the Gulliver wind turbine at Lowestoft.

It took him into the finals of the Best Commercial Photography section of the 2008 Creative East Awards, watched by an audience of 400 at the Theatre Royal, Norwich.

“It was tremendous to be a finalist,” said Alan. “I was commissioned to photograph two men working on one of the turbine blades and was amazed when I saw what they were doing. I was delighted with the picture but looking at them working at such a height made you feel green.”

Photographs from all four finalists in the award will be published in Professional Photographer Magazine, which sponsored it. It was won by Mike Harrington, from Norwich.

The award was one of many in an event attended by 400 people at the Theatre Royal, Norwich, and hosted by Clive Anderson.
