SPORTS and TV personality Sharron Davies will be opening a new 1.1m swimming pool in Caister next month.

At 33m, the indoor facility at the Caister Holiday Park, based on Ormesby Road and run by Haven, has a glass roof and is more than 30pc longer than most swimming pools.

Sharron Davies will be cutting the ribbon at Caister’s new private pool on Saturday, April 9 at 3pm as part of an afternoon of entertainment.

With an MBE to her name, the former Olympic swimmer won Olympic and commonwealth medals during her career and has served as a patron of charities for disabled children and fitness.

In January last year, she also took part in Dancing on Ice, making it through to the seventh week before being eliminated.

The opening will also include a display by a group of local synchronised swimmers group and Water Walkerz races, in which those taking part tread across the water in huge balls.

General Manager Mark Collymore said that pool “means holidaymakers and owners of holiday homes on our park will have even more room to enjoy the activities or simply relax and chill out.”

A sandy beach area is being created next to the pool, and is likely to be joined a giant flume. There are also hopes that eventually an additional outdoor pool will join the inddor one.

The investment is part of a major upgrade at what is the site of Britain’s oldest holiday camp, which goes back 105 years.
