More than 40 drivers were penalised for using a mobile phone behind the wheel during a police exercise in Great Yarmouth this week.
Officers spent the day patrolling roads around the town on Thursday as part of a week-long police campaign called Operation Ringtone, which is looking to clamp down on use of phones behind the wheel.
In a day’s patrolling, officers identified 42 drivers using a mobile while driving, along with a string of other motoring offences.
Officers also spotted 18 people not wearing seatbelts, seven other motoring offences and issued three vehicle defect notices.
Lorne Green, Norfolk’s police and crime commissioner, said: “We hope we can get the message out that when you use a handheld device behind the wheel, you are putting your life at risk, and the lives of others.
“No telephone call is important enough to put lives at risks - there is no excuse.”.
