STUDENTS at a Gorleston school have started planning early for their future careers with a little help from business representatives at a networking event.

STUDENTS at a Gorleston school have started planning early for their future careers with a little help from business representatives at a networking event.

Oriel High School hosted 15 businesses for the first of three or four events during the course of the year. Firms present included Signs Express, which supplies vehicle graphics, hairdressers and offshore industries, including international engineering and project management firm AMEC.

Other organisations attending included Coastwatch and staff from James Paget Hospital.

The meeting last Thursday provided 45 of the school's pupils with the opportunity to ask the company representatives what skills they would need to be employed in their businesses.

Oriel deputy head Naomi Palmer and assistant head Simon Gilbert-Barnham were also present along with Yarmouth MP Tony Wright.

The evening started with a dinner and finished with a fun trivia quiz arranged by the event organisers AMEC.
