CHILDREN were given food for thought at a Fairtrade fairground event in Ormesby St Margaret on Friday.

Among the attractions aimed at making a serious message fun was a bicycle powered smoothie maker combing the twin lifestyle targets of diet and exercise.

Youngsters were invited to take part in a range of games including hurl the pineapple, a coconut shy with oranges, and hook a banana. Gifts and food produced to give growers and makers a fair price were also on sale, as well as Fairtrade cakes.

Organiser and Traidcraft representative Helen Farman said the event was a contribution to Fairtrade Fortnight and the campaign to make Great Yarmouth a Fairtrade borough. She added that the evening sunshine meant families were happy to linger rather than tear home after school.
