Patient care has not suffered after the out of hours service in Great Yarmouth moved to the James Paget University Hospital, said officials.

The service moved from the Nelson Medical Centre on Pasteur Road to the JPH on October 6, with an extra GP available between 6.30pm and midnight on weekdays and 8am to midnight at the weekend.

Director of Engagement at NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group Rebecca Driver said: “We are pleased to confirm that the relocation of the out of hours base to the James Paget University Hospital has gone smoothly.

“All the feedback we have received so far confirms that patients are pleased with the service, and that people have been happy to go to the new location.”

Patients are advised to call NHS 111 if their regular GP surgery is closed, where call handlers may then give them an appointment at the out of hours service at the JPH. It is not a walk in service.

Chief Exec of JPH Foundation Trust Christine Allen said: “We are working closely with Great Yarmouth and Waveney CCG and IC24, the out of hours service provider, to improve access for patients which will be helped by relocating the service to the James Paget University Hospital site.”
