Owners of mobile homes up in arms

A BITTER dispute has broken out between the residents and owners of a mobile home site in Bradwell.

People living at Beaumont Park on Mill Lane are fighting plans to re-position their homes and put up three new units.

They are at loggerheads with the owners over who would pay if any of the properties are damaged while being moved.

A meeting was held on Tuesday by a newly formed residents association to fight the planning proposals.

The residents own their homes, but rent pitches from F and D Continental Roadways who purchased the site last year.

Demands for rent increases from �75 to �100 a month to pay for better lighting and road access have been rejected by residents.

Association chairman Brian Richardson said: “If any damage is done to the caravans when they are moved the site owners insist that we are liable for it. Our insurance companies would not pay and the law states quite clearly that they are responsible

“Our plots will be smaller and all the fences will be taken down so it will be more like living on a holiday park.

“We agree there needs to be improvements to the site, but are not convinced they would be carried out if we handed over the money. If it is we can come up with a reasonable agreement.

“There are people living here in their 80s and 90s and this is causing them a great deal of distress.”

Plans have been submitted with Great Yarmouth Borough Council which would see the number of units increase from 28 to 31.

Cambridgeshire based F and D Continental Roadways purchased Beaumont Park last summer.

Co-owner Carol Smith, who runs the company with her husband, said: “The site is totally run down and the caravans need to be repositioned to create more space. There were not even any fire hydrants previously - all the fencing and sheds are fire risks.”
