PHOTOGRAPHY students from a Suffolk school have used their impressive skills to capture 12 stunning images from around the world for a calendar which will raise funds for Palliative Care East.

The collection of pictures provided by A-level and GCSE students from St Felix School, Southwold, are featured in a 2009 calendar which went on sale on Monday .

The calendar provides a mix of scenes from kite flying in China and snow covered mountains in France to a forest scene in Dunwich woods and a tranquil harbour setting in Southwold.

The arts committee at the James Paget awarded a prize for best photograph to Lauren Keegan who received a £25 voucher for her picture of Southwold Harbour.

Ian Walker, chair of the arts committee said the quality and diversity of subjects covered by the students was exceptional.

Lesley Roberts, head of photography at the school, said the students had enjoyed compiling the project and had learnt more about the appeal by meeting with governors at the hospital.

It is the third art related project the school has undertaken with the James Paget University Hospital over the past few years.

The calendar is £5 and available from the foyer at the James Paget, St Felix School, Colleen and Clare in Southwold and Norton and Peskett Solicitors offices in Lowestoft, Beccles and King Street in Yarmouth. All profits will be donated to the appeal.

Meanwhile, organisers of an evening with Rick Wakeman which raised £11,000 for the Palliative Care East appeal are pictured presenting a cheque to staff at the James Paget University Hospital, where the centre will be built.

Picture are appeal co-ordinator Jenny Westgate, Gerda Gibbs Macmillan palliative care nurse specialist, appeal patron Michael Musket, Haven Rotary president Robert Parker, Ian Thompson, appeal patron Ian McCreadie, Mike Butcher of Haven Rotary and Rachel Sullivan, palliative care secretary.

The Mia Lucy Rose Coffee Shop, on the High Street, Gorleston, is selling Christmas cards with proceeds going towards the appeal.

w Donations can be sent by post to the James Paget Healthcare NHS Trust Palliative Care Appeal, Palliative Care Team, Lowestoft Road, Gorleston, NR31 6LA. Cheques should be made payable to Palliative Care East.
