A group of brave Great Yarmouth & Waveney Mind supporters have free fallen 13,000ft from a light aircraft in aid of the mental health charity.
The skydive at Ellough airfield coincided with the charity’s official 40th birthday and was attended by a large number of spectators and supporters who wanted to be part of the special celebration.
Great Yarmouth & Waveney Mind adopted July 7 as their official birthday as it coincided with the birthday of the late Rev Roy Coppack, who in 1978 with a donation of £50 established the Way Out Club for agoraphobics.
That club evolved and became Great Yarmouth & Waveney Mind, which works to ensure the mental health needs of young people and adults within the local community are met by offering a range of support services.
With her feet firmly back on the ground Hollie Moran, fundraiser, said: “It was one of the most terrifying and exhilarating experiences of my life. It was an honour to do this for such a fantastic cause and support the vital work that Great Yarmouth & Waveney Mind carry out.”
Philip Eke, chief executive officer at Great Yarmouth & Waveney Mind, said: “We can’t thank these brave individuals enough for taking on this challenge. We’re always truly grateful when people choose to take on personal challenges to support our work and raise awareness.
This event forms part of a yearlong birthday celebration which will see us deliver 40 events to celebrate 40 years.
“The skydive will definitely be a memorable moment amongst the activities and events planned throughout this special anniversary year. The funds raised through sponsorship will be used at a local level to directly support our services and the people who access them.”
On the same day mother and daughter Mind supporters Kirsty and Mia Silom climbed Mount Snowden to raise funds for the charity and raise awareness of it. They have raised more than £900.
