HUNDREDS of homes in the region have been blacklisted by paramedics who have to request back up before attending an emergency call.

The East of England ambulance service has listed 406 homes in Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire with a history of violence against members of the emergency services.

An estimated 1,000 health workers and emergency service members are attacked while carrying out their jobs each week.

Adrienne Watts, of East of England Ambulance Service, said: “There will always be a balance to be struck between ensuring staff safety and getting to people who need urgent care who are potentially a danger.

“It goes without saying that the safety of our staff is of paramount importance and the Trust works closely with the police to ensure that risk is minimised.

“Risk registers are one of the measures we use to protect staff and at the same time make sure that patients get access to the care they need.”

Crews can request an address to be flagged if they have experienced violence when responding to a call there. The list is updated every six to twelve months to protect new owners or tenants of properties who move into flagged properties.
