The primary care trust for the area has sent fewer patients than expected to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, which specialises in liver transplants, brain surgery, rare cancers, and treatment of children, among other things
Yarmouth and Waveney PCT has underspent at Cam-bridge University Hospitals Trust by £72,000 so far this year, and the underspend may hit £171,000 by the end of the financial year in April.
Trust chairman Bernard Williamson said: “It is good to see an underspend but not if patients aren't being treated quickly.”
David Matthews, director of finance and commissioning, said: “There is not an issue around waiting lists but we are using less of these specialist services than our fair share.”
The trust is heading for a breakeven position but expects to overspend by £1.8m or more on continuing care such as nursing homes.
