A cycling shop is aiming to encourage families to get on their bikes at a festival in Gorleston.
Pedal Revolution is hoping to inspire people at this year’s Clifftop Festival by offering free coaching and bike maintenance.
For those who have perhaps spent a while out of the saddle, the shop will be running sessions for all ages on their ‘Scalextric-like’ mountain bike track.
The free coaching will look to improve people’s cycling ability, which they can then transfer to their everyday road usage, focussing on three key areas: confidence, bike handling and awareness.
Pedal Revolution coach, Neil Turner, said: “I hope people will come along to our coaching sessions and through learning the bike limbo, sumo bike wrestling and the legendary tortoise race.
“Your core everyday skills that can make you a safer and more confident rider will be transformed – and you will have a blast in the process.”
The store will also provide free bike ‘health checks’ at 10.30am and 11.00am on each day of the festival.
In order to encourage cycling as healthy, affordable and environmentally friendly form of travel, the Norfolk Cycle Loan Scheme has teamed up with Pedal Revolution’s stand for the festival.
The project is sponsored by Norfolk County Council’s Pushing Ahead initiative and offers people above the age of 16 in the Great Yarmouth area the opportunity to loan a bike with a helmet, lights and lock for four weeks, free of charge.
People will be able to sign up at the festival and are only required to provide a £10 deposit, which is refunded upon return of the bike. Alternatively, the bike can be purchased at the end of the loan at a discounted price.
The festival returns for its 21st year on Saturday, July 28, and closes with a firework finale at 10pm on Sunday, July 29.
A range of food and entertainment will be on offer across the festival, which recently announced it had secured £10,000 of private sponsorship from local businesses.
It is estimated this year’s festival will cost around £28,000.
