Pensioner duo prove slimming inspiration

MARRIAGE is supposed to be about sharing - and losing weight together has helped a Caister couple add some sparkle to their relationship.
Pensioners Alf and Marjorie Edwards have jointly lost nearly nine stone since starting their diet 18 months ago.
The couple, who have seven grandchildren, had been trying to shed the pounds without success for several years before joining Acle Slimming World club.

transformed appearances and improved health has proved an inspiration to fellow club members.
Alf has shrunk from 21st 6lb to reach his target weight of 15st, losing 12ins off his waist, and Marjorie gone down four dress sizes, stepping on the scales at 14st 8lb after losing more than two stones.
They have been crowned Acle Mr and Mrs Slimming World and Alf was awarded the club's Slimming World Man of the Year and Greatest Loser titles.
Alf said: “The weight I have lost is equivalent to around two sacks of potatoes and a sack of carrots. Our little car used to struggle to get along with us in it but now just flies along - like us it has much more voom.
“Losing the weight has made us feel so much better, we both have far more energy and sleep a lot easier.
“I have got a little dog and take her out for long walks all the time, Marjorie's blood pressure and cholesterol levels have gone down, my gout has cleared up and breathing problems improved.”
Alf added: “I suppose I'm a walking advert for the diet and have encouraged at lot of other people to join the club.”
A keen cook, Alf, 76, had piled on the pounds since retiring as a railway project manager 14 years ago.
Marjorie, 69, had also struggled with her weight for many years trying several different diets.
She said: “We haven't stopped eating anything we were having before. It is about the quantity and the way the food is put together. It has definitely improved our relationship and quality of life. We have much more get up and go in us.”
