IT might have been a bit chilly on Great Yarmouth's seafront but it soon warmed up thanks to the rock 'n' roll music at Age Concern's Picnic on the Prom.

Volunteers joined people who use the charity's services for the outdoor event near the Sealife Centre, which was also attended by new mayor and mayoress Terry and Jenny Easter.

Musical entertainment came from No Idea, the Highlights Rock'n'Roll duo, local singer Anna Ross, the Rock'n'Roll Racals, Pete Sisam and David Piggord and Friends. All relentlessly pumped out music from the baby boomer era and almost everyone knew all the words to songs like Who's Sorry Now, Teenager in Love and other 1950s and 1960s favourites.

Age Concern chairman Brian McDonnell said: “The idea was for older people to bring their own picnic and sit and enjoy the entertainment. I must thank the Sealife Centre for all of their help and to Help the Aged who gave us £200 towards the event.”

Organiser Val Cadmore said: “We have had a good turnout and all of the acts performing here are local. We've also had holidaymakers come to see us and one group came from Age Concern in Leicester. I think this is very good for tourism.”

Gillian and Ken Edmonds from Yarmouth said they support the organisation when they can as everyone there is so helpful.

Audrey Winter and Carol Elliot are members of the Yarmouth Over 60s Club.

Carol said: “It's a good idea to have something like this as it gets everyone together,” and Audrey added: “It is also been a good socialiser - last year we all went to London and visited the Houses of Parliament.”

The music on Thursday continued until teatime.
