Plans to ditch a free borough wide pest control service in Great Yarmouth were delayed for a month last night so councillors could examine the proposals further.
Yarmouth Borough Council's cabinet was due to discuss introducing charges of up to �25 for the service or even scrapping it all together in an effort to save �20,000.
However the item was removed from the cabinet agenda to allow for an extra review of the pest control plans.
Last year the borough council's three man pest control team were asked to deal with 1422 incidents of rat and mice infestation.
In order to make a �20,000 saving in 2010/11 the council is looking at several cost cutting measures including scrapping or outsourcing the service or charging up to �25 to treat infestations.
The preferred option is to introduce a nominal charge of �10 and employing a part time pest controller to replace a full time pest control foreman who retires next month.
Council leader Barry Coleman said: “We are looking for a more detailed and comprehensive review.”
