A healthcheck of Norfolk’s pharmacy services has found that there are enough pharmacies across the county to meet patients’ needs.

Around 5,000 people in Norfolk contributed to the major review of pharmacy services.

Conclusions include that pharmacies are an important way to get support to stop smoking, as well as for sexual health services such as chlamydia testing and the provision of emergency hormonal contraception.

There is a good distribution of pharmacies and dispensing GP practices and no additional pharmacies are needed in the county at this time, according to the draft assessment.

The draft assessment is now being sent to a range of key stakeholders such as local councils, patient groups, pharmacists and GP practices for their comments.

Once their views have been taken into account, it is expected the final assessment will be published in February and become a legal document in April.
