POLICE have praised the public response to an alert about a suspected rogue trader operating in the Lawn Avenue area of Yarmouth on Wednesday.

Phone calls from the public enabled officers to detain the door-to-door fish seller until the borough environmental health team arrived to seize the fish stock.

Norfolk County Council's trading standards officers urge residents never to agree to have work done, or buy goods from someone who calls unannounced at their door or approaches them on the street.

A spokesman said: “Often such traders don't provide full names, trading addresses or contact telephone numbers, resulting in it being virtually impossible to trace them if there are any problems with the work or goods, which is all too often the case.”
