AFTER a recent rise in pedal cycle thefts in the Cobholm and Southtown area officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team held a security marking day in a bid to combat the crime.

Last Wednesday officers visited the Cobholm Youth Club and the Health and Resource Centre and security marked more than 30 bikes. Police also gave youngsters advice on how to keep their bikes secure.

Officers said bikes should not be left in isolated places and should always be locked to proper cycle stands. They added accessories such as lights should not be left with the bike.

Further security marking days are planned for Friday, August 22, at the Kings Centre, Yarmouth, and on Saturday, August 23, at the Claydon Pavilion on Suffolk Road, both between 3pm and 5pm.
