A multi-agency operation targeting the so-called fatal four motoring offences has been held in Great Yarmouth.

Monday’s operation was based around the Pasteur Road area of the town and was led by PC Richard Green of Yarmouth police.

It saw four drivers reported for having no seat belts, two motorists caught using a mobile phone, three offences of no insurance, two defective tyres reported and four prohibition notices issued for unworthy vehicles. Two taxi drivers were also handed prohibition notices.

The operation also involved Norfolk police’s roads policing and road casualty reduction teams, the DVLA and Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

Officers also dealt with a road traffic collision during the operation.

The fatal four traffic offences are speeding, distractions such as using mobile phones while driving, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

Insp Donald Dallas said the day of action had been a successful operation.
