POLICE in coastal and rural areas have been working with local shops to ensure residents have an egg-free Halloween.

Officers from Safer Neighbourhood Teams covering Caister, coastal villages and rural Flegg have got many shops to display a poster informing customers that they will not sell eggs and flour to under-18s around Halloween.

Police have also sent letters to local primary schools giving parents tips on how to keep their children safe and out of trouble at Halloween.

They advise children only knock at doors where they know people live and should take an adult with them. Children should be dressed in light, reflective clothing and take care when crossing the road.

Posters deterring trick or treaters are available from Caister police station.
