POLICE have moved to reassure members of the horsing community following rumours of a spate of horse thefts in the county.

Officers are concerned over fears that there has been an epidemic of horse thefts despite only one reported incident this year.

Last month two horses were stolen from a farm in Lords Lane, Burgh Castle.

A police spokesman said: “We are aware of rumours circulating within the horsing community that there has been a spate of horse thefts in the county.

“We would like to reassure those in the equine industry that this is not the case, although we would remind people that it is important to remain vigilant and report any genuine suspicious activity to police.”
