DETECTIVES are examining CCTV footage and speaking to people who witnessed a daring raid which lasted a matter of minutes at Great Yarmouth's busy Tesco Extra store.

Raiders believed to be brandishing a stun gun threatened security guards as they loaded money into three cashpoints in the store's car park and forced them to hand over a large amount of cash.

But shoppers walking in through the main entrance may have been blissfully unaware of the drama unfolding at 6.45pm on Monday.

Det Insp Rickie Botwright, leading the investigation, said: "The way the whole robbery was held within minutes there was not a great deal of fuss and shouting. It has more than likely gone completely unnoticed by people going in and out of the main store."

He was disappointed by the response to appeals for information as motorists should have seen the black Jeep Cherokee, registration V408 LUG, the robbers drove off in. The vehicle was recovered parked in High Mill Road, Cobholm at the rear of Pasta Foods.

Det Insp Botwright said: "We believe this is the location where the robbers would have changed into a different vehicle to leave the area. It is likely they would have removed their face coverings. I would ask anyone who was in this area between 6.30pm and 7pm on Monday to contact us. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the Jeep prior to the robbery."

Detectives were last night investigating possible links with a robbery at a Tesco Express store in North Wootton, near King's Lynn, in May, when a security van driver was incapacitated by a stun gun.

It is thought the three robbers, who were wearing black balaclavas or face masks, may have been waiting to ambush staff from security firm G4S who were loading the machine. One of the guards reported hearing an electric cracking noise from a stun gun.

The raiders wore dark tracksuit bottoms and tops.

Det Insp Botwright added: "The only description we have is that one was 5ft 7in to

5ft 9in and the other two were 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in. They were all of medium build."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Insp Botwright on 0845 456 4567 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
