MOTORISTS in an area of Gorleston are being warned to stick to parking regulations or face a fine.

Officers from the Magdalen Safer Neighbourhood Team have been carrying out increased patrols around the shops on Magdalen Way in a bid to encourage responsible parking.

The initiative targeting anti-social drivers started in December and has resulted in:

Seven fixed penalty notices

Three verbal warnings

More than 30 warning letters sent to drivers

The police action follows complaints that motorists were parking on double yellow lines, causing obstructions to other road users.

PC Lee Howell, from Magdalen SNT, said: “Officers will continue to patrol this area and target vehicles which are parked irresponsibly. However, I'm pleased to say the message appears to be getting across. There is suitable parking at the rear of the shops and illegal parking will not be tolerated.”
