POLICE are warning shoppers pushing buggies to be vigilant following a number of thefts in Great Yarmouth.

The offenders identify their victims, usually those that are pushing buggies, follow them into shops and observe them purchasing items and placing the receipt for the item into the carrier bag provided by the shop.

The shoppers then place their items over the handle of the buggy and continue to shop unaware they are being followed by the suspect who then waits until the victim is in a crowded or busy part of the town and cuts the bag from the handle, stealing the contents.

The thieves will then take the items back to the relevant shop and obtain a refund using the receipt.

Police believe some of the offenders may have travelled from around Norfolk to commit their crimes.

Anyone with information in relation to the thefts should phone Norfolk Police on 0845 4564567.
