It’s disappointing when politicians resort to petty political games and posturing rather than taking real action to tackle issues.

We continue to see it in Parliament as the bill triggering our exit from the European Union trundles through the House of Lords, whilst those unwilling to accept a democratic decision made by the British people vainly attempt to delay or reverse that decision.

And we are seeing it within our own town hall, as some councillors chose to grandstand over benefit reform and the introduction of Universal Credit.

Every day, alongside my hard-working constituency staff, I am dealing with issues raised by constituents about these changes.

None of these problems would be solved by a public meeting, which is just designed to get cheap headlines. No two cases are the same and these Issues are solved by tackling individual cases with the public agencies and highlighting issues with ministerial colleagues.

Other issues important to Great Yarmouth residents, which I’ve been tackling for many years now include the need for additional local jobs, particularly for young people and an overdue refurbishment of the station and surrounding gateway area to the town.

I was delighted with the success of my latest jobs fair held last week at Great Yarmouth Racecourse.

It was good to see so many students from local schools taking the chance to meet exhibitors and discuss their next important step in their lives.

Likewise, the current consultation on the £2 million plans for enhancing the station area and route to the Market Place is an important step forward in my long-term campaign for refurbishment to an important gateway to our town. The station is the first thing that many visitors to our town see, and it is fantastic that funding has been granted to improve the link between the station and the town.

I continue to take every opportunity to remind the rail companies of their responsibility and the need for a long overdue refurbishment.
