Poppy appeal organisers open shop
ORGANISERS of the town's annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal are hopeful of beating last year's fundraising total of £20,000.And to help them in their cause, the charity's Great Yarmouth branch has taken over a unit in the Victoria Arcade which opened on Wednesday this week to sell a wide range in sizes of poppies, and wreaths.

And to help them in their cause, the charity's Great Yarmouth branch has taken over a unit in the Victoria Arcade which opened on Wednesday this week to sell a wide range in sizes of poppies, and wreaths.
The shop will be open for a six-week period until the town holds its Remembrance Service and parade at the war memorial in St George's Park on November 9.
Last year, the branch set up a poppy shop at St Nicholas' Church in Yarmouth, but chairman Robert Powles said he preferred the new position because it was a more central location.
He added: “This is better for us. It is a central location and nearer the banks.”
Mr Powles, 73, who served in the Royal Army Service Corps, will be running the shop with branch president Michael Ellis, who is also the local appeal organiser.

The shop will be open from 9am until 4pm on weekdays, and 9am until noon on Saturdays, but will be closed on the last two Saturdays before Remembrance Day on November 11.
