AS many motorists would testify, Norfolk can be quite an easy county to get lost in especially when looking for a street or house in the more remote areas.

But a Stalham couple are mystified as to why taxi drivers, television fitters and even ambulance drivers continue to fail to find their home just off the town's High Street, given that they have lived there for the last 18 years!

Jean and Ronald Smith moved into their house at Dunkerly Court in 1992, but the location has proved difficult to locate for drivers using the latest satellite navigation equipment because the postcode NR12 9EW is not recognised.

In the most recent incident last month, an employee from Hughes Electrical who was called out to install the Smiths' new flat screen TV had to phone the couple from his van to ask for directions.

Mrs Smith said the man had travelled from North Walsham thinking he would find the home as he knew the High Street well, but was told he had to travel three-quarters of the way up the road to near the Kingfisher pub.

And surgery to replace one of her husband's knees became an even trickier operation when the taxi driver from North Walsham booked to take him to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital also failed to find the house.

“They phoned up and said where are you? They looked at the satellite navigation and said they did not know where it was. They said it was not on the screen,” said Mrs Smith.

“We have ordered quite a few taxis, but they just don't know where to go.”

Since then she has tried to book taxi drivers who know where her house is to make sure they turn up!
