Children at a Caister pre-school nursery have been praised for learning how to be independent and meeting their early learning goals by impressed Ofsted inspectors.

Playdays, which has 23 children aged two to five on its books, has received a good rating in all 17 categories of an Ofsted inspection carried out last month.

The nursery was praised for the way its staff encouraged children to develop a sense of independence by pouring their own drinks at snack times, using knives to butter crackers and cleaning up.

Osfted also singled out the way children develop a good awareness of names, the sounds of letters and numbers and learn about healthy eating.

The report goes on to describe Playdays' staff as being motivated and cohesive and who are keen to improve the provision for children.

Inspector Glenda Field said: “Children settle with ease in the welcoming and inclusive environment of the pre-school.

“They benefit from having their individual needs met effectively by staff who take time to form positive relationships with all children and their families.”

Ofsted said Playdays, which is based at Caister Community Centre, could improve by increasing opportunities for children to write their own names and experiment with writing. Self-evaluation could also be further developed.
