Praise and congratulations were the order of the day for the 80 violinists who represented Hillside Primary School at the St Andrew's Music Festival. Playing in four groups of 20 the adjudicator, who himself was a violinist, congratulated the young children on the standard they had attained so far. As a way of encouraging them to continue he demonstrated the full sound of the violin by performing variations on Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.

In addition to the violinists the school was represented by 12 keyboard players who were also commended for their skills and professionalism.

On Tuesday, Hillside's school choir performed two songs to a very high standard and were praised accordingly.

Hillside Primary School promotes music within the school and is proud of the many children who take up the opportunity to develop their musical skills. Headteacher, Christine Bryant recognised the hard work in preparing the children for the St Andrew's Festival and thanked the school's music teachers, Janet Rust and Jane Park, peripatetic teachers Sylvia Saxby, Mrs Lidement (violin teachers) and Ruth Harrison (keyboard teacher).
