PUPILS at Winterton Primary School enjoyed their own harvest from the school's allotment which they acquired last year. Youngsters, parents, staff and governors have worked together to clear weeds, prepare the soil and plant and tend fruit and vegetables. The children have been particularly pleased with their giant pumpkins but have also harvested runner beans, courgettes, marrows, tomatoes, sweetcorn and raspberries. New headteacher Richard Endall is very impressed with the project.

He said: “This is a tremendous asset for the school. I am hugely encouraged by the way in which everyone has worked together to make the allotment a great success. We will be submitting a lottery bid for further funding to develop the project and the children already have lots of ideas about what they would like to see happen.” Staff plan to make pumpkin soup with the children after the school's Harvest Festival at Winterton Church today, Friday.
