A NORFOLK charity has asked county councillors to probe controversial plans to scrap free bus travel for blind people.

John Child, from the Norfolk and Norfolk Association for the Blind, wants Norfolk County Council’s scrutiny committee to look at the measure, which was introduced after the County Hall took over the running of the concessionary fares system in April.

The council said it has been forced to act after being shortchanged by the government in the funding it needs.

But critics feel that blind people of working age, who were entitled to free transport, are being unfairly hit.

The committee agreed to add the item to its forward work programme.
