FOUR men who were arrested after a serious disturbance outside a Great Yarmouth pub on Good Friday night have received police cautions.

Alison Smith, landlady of the Albion pub, was told last week that the men, who are from the travelling community, were given cautions.

The men were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage after the pub in Nelson Road Central had its windows smashed in.

Following the incident, the Albion was closed down for three weeks on the grounds that police feared for public safety.

The Albion opened its doors on May 1 after a Yarmouth Borough Council licensing committee agreed it could reopen if it employed extra door staff, had a formal banning policy and installed CCTV cameras.

Mrs Smith said the three-week closure cost her up to £30,000 in lost earnings and paying rent and wages. She also had to pay solicitors £6,000 for her licensing hearing.

Following the Good Friday night disturbance, Mrs Smith was arrested on the suspicion of using racist language but police decided not to charge her in connection with the incident.
