PUB licensees could be prosecuted over a party in Caister, which residents' claimed left a trail of rubbish and prevented them sleeping.

Chris Skinner, head of central services at Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said the council was considering prosecuting Irene McGreavly, licence holder at the Never Turn Back pub in Manor Road, and Darren Francis, the pub's Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS), for breaches of the premises licence. He added investigations were continuing.

The potential legal action relates to nuisance and selling alcohol and providing entertainment beyond the permitted hours.

Mr Skinner added both the licensee and DPS were understood to be in Spain and the pub was being managed by Christopher Gonco at the time of the incident.

But Mr Gonco denied the party had taken place throughout the weekend. He said there had been two separate parties, the first starting at 7pm on Saturday, June 14 finishing at midnight, while the second was from noon until 7pm the following day.

He added the pub had employed litter pickers to clean up after the event and reports of the mess left behind by partygoers were exaggerated.

Mr Gonco said police arrived at 1.30am on the Sunday to find the premises vacated.

Last week, the Mercury reported residents' claims they had found 16 pairs of knickers strewn along a footpath beside Manor Road on June 16, the morning after the party on a beach area backed onto by the Never Turn Back pub.
