PUPILS and staff past and present joined together in a special assembly to wish Mrs Enid Simonds well on her retirement after working at Filby School for 28 years.

Mrs Simonds started at the school in 1982 as a mid day supervisory assistant but following the closure of the cooking kitchen in 1983 began the job of serving school dinners brought in from a neighbouring school.

This was something she continued to do until last Friday, when a leaving ceremony was held in her honour.

Children read poems they had written and sang special songs to her and long standing staff shared their memories of Mrs Simonds. She was also presented with cards, flowers and gift cards.

Mrs Sue Smith MSA said: “Enid has seen staff and pupils came and go and has witnessed both happy times and sad times but would always be somewhere in the background providing support where it was needed.

“She has always in her quiet, low key, no fuss manner helped at school or in the village.”
