DISCOUNT retailer QD Stores was this week not ruling out re-opening Great Yarmouth's vacant Woolworths store in a new guise.

With branches in Beccles and North Walsham opening in former Woolworths stores, a spokesman said this week that although the company had a strong presence in the area with Lathams at Potter Heigham, Cherry Lane at Fritton and QD Stores in Gorleston High Street, further expansion was being considered.

She added: “If there was a site at the right price they would consider expanding in the area. Expansion is being considered but there is no real comment until there is some progress.”

Yarmouth's Woolworths was one of 815 branches to close across the country at the beginning of January. It closed with the loss of 49 jobs.
